Reflection
Being an effective communicator is key to the development of a child's learning and thinking skills as well as social and emotional wellbeing. A key factor in being able to communicate effectively hinges on the building of relationships, trust and feeling comfortable and confident in your surroundings. We believe being able to communicate effectively in 'face to face' situations goes hand in hand with a person's well being and emotional literacy. We intend to develop this area further.
We recognise that we provide children with many opportunities to talk about their learning , however we need to also provide as many opportunities as possible for all of our students to have 'time to talk' within the school day about themselves, their feelings and emotions.
We already have in intervention programmes and procedures in place such as :-
'Friends for Life' ,
Access to a School Councillor (shared with another school)
'Circle Time'
'Speaking and Listening' targeted groups
Social Thinking sessions for targeted students
'Incredible flexible you' with early years students
Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA's) supporting targeted students
However there is always room for further enhancement to support the children's communication skills which does link closely to their well being
